Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)
Director: Richard Donner
Cast: Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci, Joss Ackland
Synopsis: Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) are involved in a high speed pursuit and after they have stopped them the suspect flees but they recover millions in gold Krugerrands. In order to keep them out of more trouble their Captain puts them on an assignment to guard government witness Leo Getz (Joe Pesci). Almost immediately after meeting Getz there is an attempt on his life after which it is revealed he worked with South Africans. This leads them to the South African embassy which is run by the corrupt Arjen Rudd (Joss Ackland). After being told they have diplomatic immunity Riggs decides to still investigate them which leads him to a showdown with Rudd and the man who changed his life forever.
Trivia: Riggs intentionally dislocates his shoulder in this film in order to get out of a straitjacket, then has to slam his shoulder back into place. This becomes a running gag throughout the series, where he slams his shoulder back into place after riding a motorcycle off a bridge in Lethal Weapon 3 and Ku (Jet Li’s character) dislocates both of Riggs’ shoulders in a fight scene in Lethal Weapon 4.
Why I think you should see this: I love the Lethal Weapon movies because they have great action and are also very funny as well. I also really enjoy the pairing of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Despite what he has done in his personal life its hard to deny that Mel Gibson is a very talented actor who made some very memorable films. The toilet scene might just be the best scene in the whole series. I suggest watching all four films if you want the complete Lethal Weapon experience. The addition of Joe Pesci’s hilarious Leo Getz makes this the best sequel and my favourite in the series although the first is the best.
