Movie – 5/5: In the Mystical land of Westeros the Hand to the King has died and King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) travels to Winterfell to ask his old friend Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean) to take over the position. In The Free City of Braavos son of the fallen Mad King Viserys Targaryen has sold his sister Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) to Khal Drago (Jason Mamoa) the warrior-king of the nomadic Dothraki tribe. This is in order for him to raise an army to challenge for the throne he believes to be rightfully his although he does not understand the Dothraki way which proves troublesome. After becoming Hand to the King Ned suspects the King’s wife Cersei (Lena Headey) along with her brother Jaime Lannister of treachery towards the King. When the youngest Lannister sibling Tyrion (Perter Dinklage) is kidnapped all out was begins between the North and South. Based on the first novel of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series.

Video – 5/5: The first season of Game of Thrones looks absolutely breathtaking on blu-ray showcasing HBO’s strongest video transfer to date. In my opinion the picture is perfect for this blu-ray and doubt Game of Thrones could ever look better. The picture has a grayish tint to it which only adds to the grand stage that has been set for this magnificent show.

Audio – 5/5: HBO’s DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track is very impressive from the howling winds of the Wild to the rustling trees of Winterfell to the lapping seas of the southern kingdom, Game of Thrones sounds every bit as magnificent as it looks. The diologue is crisp and clear throughout making this a very sturdy audio addition.

Overall Score and Recommendation – 5/5: There has never been a show quite like Game of Thrones which is quickly becoming one of the best shows HBO has ever produced after only one season. I cannot say enough about Sean Bean’s amazing performance as the honor bound Eddard Stark and Peter Dinklage does an incredible job as Tyrion Lannister. I definitely suggest this to any Lord of the Rings fans who have not seen this because you will fall in love this show. The great performances do not stop there with every single cast member putting forth a solid effort. From top to bottom this is a fantastic Blu-ray release by HBO and earns my highest recommendation.

Completely agree…I wasn’t going to get involved with it when it came out thinking it would be a bit hocky for my taste but got hooked and loved it.

  2. I cannot say enough about this series. The books were amazing, but to see it done so well on screen was heaven.

  3. Have read all the books but only seen the first episode from Series 1. I can’t wait to watch them all as the books have to be the best thing written since Lord of the Rings. Kim*
