Army of Darkness (1992)

Director: Sam Raimi

Cast: Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie

Synopsis: After being sent to ancient times Ash (Bruce Campbell) is taken to a nearby kingdom where he is accused of being in league with that King’s sworn enemy and he is sentenced to death. He is then thrown into a pit where he has to fight two deadites after defeating them he is said to be the chosen one by the wiseman (Ian Abercrombie). He also falls in love with a maiden of the kingdom Sheila (Embeth Davidtz) His mission is to find the book of the dead and bring it back to them but before he takes the book he must recite a phrase Klaatu Barada Niktu or else he will awaken the army of the dead. After he says the words wrong and takes the book Sheila is taken captive by the leader of the deadites and Ash must band together the kingdom to save Sheila.

Trivia: Bruce Campbell says that in order to make it appear that the chainsaw was always running, tobacco smoke was pumped through a tube that was slid up his right pant leg, up his shirt, and into the chainsaw.

Why I think you should see this: The Evil Dead movies are an acquired taste because they are very silly but also quite gross too not everyone likes them. I personally love them and can’t recommend this installment enough. You can see that some of the style used in this film rubbed off on Raimi when he was making the Spiderman trilogy particularly the first. If you can stand the gross parts I highly recommend checking these films out especially this one.

You sound like me. I own nearly 400 horror films and maybe another 200 of other genres. Army of Darkness is one of the funniest horror comedies of all time.
