The Dark Knight (2008)

Director: Christopher Nolan

Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal

Synopsis: Gotham is starting to become a decent city again, Batman (Christian Bale) has been shutting down all of the major crime syndicates and keeping the lower criminals in a state of fear. A new criminal named the Joker (Heath Ledger) arrives on the scene and starts by stealing mafia money, Batman decides to ignore him for the time being because feels he can shut down the whole mob. The mob bosses of Gotham are now forced to have their meeting during the day so they are not interrupted by Batman. During a meeting Joker pays them a visit and offers to rid them of the Batman for half of all their money. Another threat to the mob is the new District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) who has proven true in his quest to legally shut down Gotham’s crime syndicates. Bruce is considering retiring as Batman because he feels Dent is the one to take is mantle as the protector of Gotham and this means he would be able to be with Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal). This proves impossible as the Joker pushes Batman to his limits in a fight for the city that proves only Batman is fit to protect Gotham.

Trivia: Made more money than Batman Begins entire domestic run in only 6 days of release.¬†Despite endless speculation on which actor had been chosen to portray The Joker, Heath Ledger had always been Christopher Nolan’s one and only choice for the role. When asked the reason for this unexpected casting, Nolan simply replied, “Because he’s fearless.” He later said that the two had met up to discuss it before there was even a script for the film.

Why I think you should this: I remember being so excited for this movie when it first came out I saw it at like 10 in the morning and I was simply blown away by this movie. This is one of the best sequels ever made and the only sequel on this list whose predecessor isn’t which says something about this movie. Don’t get me wrong Batman Begins is an amazing film but The Dark Knight is another beast entirely with Heath Ledger’s presence being felt throughout the entire film. Christian Bale does a great job but it is really the villains taking center stage with Aaron Eckhart giving the performance of a lifetime as Harvey Dent. Just an amazing film that you have to see sometime.

It was too bad what happened to Heath Ledger during the filming of this….I think he was just to artistically sensitive and his heart couldn’t take it….Peace Jaz
